Another thing to try first is when you are welding is keep the cable to the gun straight as possible. Higher guage wire doesn't travel around curves well as lighter gauge. A really cheap fix is to replace the contact tip.Do this, you have to the wire back on to the reel. Once the gun is off, take a small piece of mig wire, bent into a u shape and poke it into the two gun switch cables. This will bridge the switch circuit and make the welder feed. It usually feeds OK but every once in a while it will go in fits and starts. The problem is usually too much pressure on the nut (maybe a wing nut) that holds the wire spool in place. A bad switch will kill both weld power and wire feed. A bad switch will also prevent power from getting to the rectifier. A bad rectifier will take out both weld and wire feed in either an SP-125T or an SP-125-PLUS. A few days ago trying to weld-up a snow blade for a 4-wheeler, It did fine for about 10 minutes, about 3-4 ins. of bead at a time, then quit putting anything out.I was looking at purchasing my first welder for use at home and was interested in the SP135 plus. The question I have is this: I see it comes all set up to weld with solid wire and gas. The website says it can do flux core welding, which I have experience in the past.Re: sp 125 plus and aluminum. FYI I use a regular push gun on aluminum. I am taking a lunch break and going out to weld more of it. A teflon liner is a must. Use 5356 wire 4043 is to soft trust me I have a roll in mine right now. The cable must be kept as strait as posible and dont twist it.Hello. Info please. I have a used lincoln sp-125 hd. I bought this for a upcomming thin-wall exhaust project. Thought id get in some practice for a while before i attempt the actual thing. By the way the 125 is pretty dam powerful. I just got an older lincoln sp 125 plus and the panel/door doesnt match. I believe it was changed. Its a wel pak 100 door but its not a weld pak 100. It doesnt have the tap amp dial like it suggests, it has the continuous adjustment knob on top. 1 - locate mains contactor in machine - operate torch switch - does contactor operate ( you will hear it clearly ) 2 - if it operates check mains is live when contactor is energized ( high mileage units can have the contacts burned away or contaminated ) 3 - now check live is going up to the voltage selector switch..
